Former Red Bull Racing CEO and team principal Christian Horner has opened up about his surprise appearance at the Monaco E-Prix.

Speaking to talkSPORT while on the starting grid in Monte Carlo, Horner explained he was taking full advantage of his time away from the championship. 

Having left Red Bull in July 2025 after two decades at the helm of the Milton Keynes outfit, Horner has been at the centre of several rumours linking him to a return to a role in a racing series, including F1 and MotoGP.

"I've been down to the MotoGP, having a look at the bikes," Horner explained.

"Coventry City made the Premiership, so that kept me busy watching those guys. And for the first time in 30 years, I've had a little bit of time out, mainly with my family, so it's been good."

He added: "I'm enjoying a bit of time out, and it's really nice to be at a race where you have absolutely zero pressure.

"So, usually standing on this grid, you would be worried about the next two hours, but for me, I'm just here to learn a little bit more about Formula E."

The Briton revealed that his presence in the Formula E paddock was facilitated by F1's commercial rights holders. "I came as a guest with the Liberty [Media] guys, and it's great to see how this championship is doing," he continued.

The Monaco visit was Horner's first-ever in-person experience of a Formula E race weekend, giving him a look at the new Gen4 machinery. "It's my first ever Formula E race, so seeing that Gen4 car, I mean, that's going to be a big step for these guys," he said.

"I think it looks quite a beast, so I think it's going to be a big step for them."
