Ferrari bemoan a challenging Sunday on both sides of the garage at the Miami Grand Prix

Ferrari described Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix as a “challenging” outing after mistakes and early damage resulted in a disappointing Sunday for the Scuderia and their Tifosi.

Charles Leclerc took responsibility for a late error that dropped him out of contention, calling it “a race in the bin” after contact with the wall cost him positions in the closing laps.

“It’s all on me. I don’t have much to add other than that. Very disappointed with my mistake. It shouldn’t happen,” said Leclerc. “I pushed very hard in the second-to-last lap. I thought I was a good idea to let Oscar go for me to get the Overtake. I knew it was going to be very difficult to get in front otherwise.

“It was a very poor decision and in the space of four corners I put a very strong race in the bin. I am very frustrated about that. Not much more to say.”

The Monegasque also faced a post-race investigation after running off track late on, admitting uncertainty over the outcome: “I don’t know what the decision will be. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. The thing I can say is I did my best to try and make the corners first of all. It was probably a lot more difficult than it looked from outside.”

Teammate Lewis Hamilton’s race was compromised on the opening lap after contact left him with damage that affected performance throughout: “Obviously it’s not a good weekend at all. Seventh and seventh; no-man’s land in both races."

"Particularly today with the damage, there was nothing I could do," Hamilton told reporters. "Really unfortunate because the team worked so hard so to come away with so few points… we have to move on from here."

Hamilton: I was unlucky with Max spinning

"It was just contact," explained the seven time F1 World Champion. "I was unlucky with Max spinning and I had to go to the right of him. I had a good Turn One and I was in a good position and then the only place I could go was right. I lost positions from there and then I think it was Franco that hit me and I lost a lot of performance from there,” Hamilton said.

Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur said the race exposed inconsistencies despite encouraging signs from recent upgrades. “Overall, it was a challenging Sunday on both sides of the garage.

“With Lewis, the race was largely about managing the damage from lap one, which meant dealing with lack of downforce, overheating and doing a lot of lift and coast just to bring the car to the finish.

“On Charles’ side, the pace was strong in clean air and we were fighting at the front, but once we dropped into traffic it became more difficult and consistency was the main issue. There was a big performance delta between the part when Charles was leading and the later part of the race.

“It is something we need to look into, because it was a similar picture in yesterday’s Sprint. However, there are some positives to take from the weekend: the starts were good and the upgrades worked as expected. We know where we need to improve," acknowledged the Ferrari boss.

Ferrari remain P2 in the 2026 Formula 1 Constructors Championship, with Leclerc and Hamilton P3 and P5 respectively in the Drivers' standings, after four rounds.
