The Brazilian has signed a multi-year deal with the American outfit after winning the FIA Formula 3 title in 2025 and emerging as a leading contender for the Formula 2 crown in his rookie season.

Haas has announced that Rafael Câmara will join the team for the 2027 Formula 1 season, with the Brazilian signing a multi-year contract to make his debut in the championship.

The 21-year-old has impressed throughout his junior career and currently leads the FIA Formula 2 standings with two rounds remaining in the 2026 campaign. Driving for Invicta Racing, Câmara has scored 207 points, securing three Feature Race victories in Spain, Belgium and Azerbaijan, alongside six podium finishes and five pole positions.

His promotion to Formula 1 follows a remarkable rise through the junior categories, having claimed the FIA Formula 3 title in his rookie season with Trident in 2025. He also won the Formula Regional European Championship with Prema in 2024, establishing himself as one of the most promising prospects in the single-seater ranks.

Câmara has been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2022, progressing through the programme's development pathway. His association with Ferrari has also provided opportunities to gain experience in Formula 1 machinery ahead of his graduation to the sport's premier category.

His first experience with Haas came in August, when he participated in a Testing of Previous Car (TPC) programme at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão, Portugal, driving the team's VF-25. His performance during the test helped convince the American outfit that he was ready to take the next step in his career.

"I'm really excited to sign such a young, amazing talent like Rafael Câmara," said Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu.

"I don't need to tell everyone about his achievements in the junior formulas, it's been very impressive, and in his rookie season in Formula 2, the speed he's shown in some very difficult moments, like qualifying in Monaco and Montreal – that all goes to show the potential Rafa has."

Komatsu also praised Câmara's ability to adapt to the Haas machinery during his test in Portugal, highlighting qualities beyond outright speed.

"He showed us more than just raw speed. Rafa managed to create an environment to get the best out of himself, it was very impressive and certainly the laps he completed were special," he added.

"We're all excited about this opportunity and really committed as TGR Haas F1 Team to nurture this talent and provide a place where he can flourish."

Team owner Gene Haas also expressed confidence in the Brazilian's potential, pointing to the successful transition made by current Haas driver Ollie Bearman, who followed a similar route through the junior categories and the Ferrari Driver Academy.

"It's a different challenge at this level but what we've experienced through Ollie Bearman following a similar trajectory and association with the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy, these younger drivers are well prepared, and they can make an immediate impact on a team," Haas said.

"Rafa impressed the team with his TPC performance, so we look forward to building on that and growing our relationship full-time next season."

For Câmara, the announcement marks the culmination of years of development and an opportunity to establish himself at the highest level of motorsport.

"I'm very happy to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team as a Formula 1 driver," he said. "It's an important step in my career and I want to thank Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for the trust they have placed in me."

The Brazilian also thanked the Ferrari Driver Academy for its support throughout his development, as well as his family, before turning his attention to preparing for the challenge ahead.

"Now my focus is on preparing myself in the best possible way for this new challenge. There will be a lot to learn, and I'm looking forward to working closely with the team, understanding the car and continuing to develop as a driver."
